PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V (PTPN V) is a subsidiary of PTPN III which is engaged in oil palm and rubber plantations. PTPN V head office is in Pekanbaru, Riau. PTPN V has oil palm plantations with a total area of 78,340.09 hectares and rubber plantations with a total area of _22200000-0000- 0000-0000-000000000222__22200000-0000 -0000-0000-000000000222_8,184 hectares. The processing of palm oil commodities is carried out in 12 Palm Oil Mills (PKS) with processed products in the form of palm oil and palm kernel. PTPN V also has 1 Palm Kernel Oil factory with a capacity of 400 tonnes of palm kernel/day.
Problem: Untidy Business Operations and Not Adopting Technology.
PTPN V revealed that the problems that occur are in the form of irregular fertilization routes so that the fertilization process becomes uneven which certainly affects long-term business results. With uneven fertilization, the quality of the products produced does not meet the standards and targets and of course business operations become inefficient and ineffective. PTPN V revealed problems related to the ineffective fertilization system on the Boom Sprayer unit or fertilization equipment. For a total land area of more than 86,000 hectares, which is not a small amount, a solution is needed that can support operational performance.
Besides the need for technology to optimize routes and fertilizing machines, PTPN V is worried about the conditions of farmers in the fields who are vulnerable to work accidents and cannot be followed up directly. Back again with a very large total area, it is impossible to control everything properly without adopting technology.
Solution: Adopting Unit Tracking System and Emergency Button
By adopting the Unit Tracking System, fertilization routes can be managed more optimally and efficiently. This enables PTPN V to track the whereabouts of the sprayer boom, making it easier to carry out monitoring. This system is also connected to an automation sensor on the sprayer boom to save fertilizer usage and be more even. This sensor is useful for dispensing fertilizer automatically when the sensor detects a plant and will stop automatically when it does not track a plant. In addition, this solution can also measure the balance of land parcels.
Regarding the team's concern for workers in the fields who are prone to work accidents, an emergency button has been prepared to send notifications to operators. This button can be used when workers are feeling unwell or feel they are in a less than ideal situation, so the team can track where things are and follow up immediately.
